About Me:
Dr. Cindy Swan, DNP, FNP-BC
I am a board certified and licensed doctor of nursing practice in family medicine. My experience includes serving patients across the lifespan in both primary and acute care settings. I received my nurse practitioner training in family medicine and doctoral degree from Duke University.
I am functional medicine trained through IFM (The Institute of Functional Medicine), recognized by the American Medical Association. Early on I spent years as a personal trainer and life coach with a focus on preventative healthcare. I am a strong believer that achieving one’s best self requires treating the root cause of disease to promote optimal health and well being.
Functional medicine emphasizes lifestyle and prevention as first line interventions, incorporating medications and traditional medicine approaches when necessary. My goal is to bring increased awareness of functional medicine to the forefront, challenging the way we have been treating health as the elimination of disease, to instead educate people how to achieve maximum wellness through a holistic, patient centered, root cause approach.
In my free time I love to mountain bike, hike, cook, travel to new places with my husband, and volunteer at our local church. My faith is my strongest foundation and motivation to care for others. I experienced the debilitating effects of autoimmune disease as a young adult. I was an athlete, but I was exhausted and experienced multiple health issues no one could explain. It took years to find the answers I sought after seeing a multitude of providers.
It was a functional medicine trained primary care doctor that took the time to look deeper and discovered the source of all my issues. This led to my own pursuit of evidence based individualized patient centered healthcare.
